The Prague Spring<\/b> (Czech<\/a>: Pra\u017esk\u00e9 jaro<\/i><\/span>, Slovak<\/a>: Pra\u017esk\u00e1 jar<\/i><\/span>) was a period of political liberalization<\/a> in Czechoslovakia<\/a> during the era of its domination by the Soviet Union<\/a> after World War II<\/a>. It began on 5 January 1968, when reformist Alexander Dub\u010dek<\/a> was elected First Secretary of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia<\/a> (KS\u010c), and continued until 21 August when the Soviet Union and other members of the Warsaw Pact<\/a> invaded the country<\/a> to halt the reforms.<\/div>\n
